eLearning CE: Activity 3 - Liew Wei Siew(15)

The leader I researched on was Minister Mentor of Singapore Lee Kwan Yew.
He was intelligent and graduated from Fitzwilliam College,Cambridge with Double Starred First Class Honours, he also persevers in things he does for example, when he sued Devan Nair and FEER. He is able to find out priorities, so that he can think of solutions to make life in Singapore better. For example, after independence, he realised that Singapore needs national security and declared a policy of neutrality and non-alignment, asked  Goh Keng Swee to build up the Singapore Armed Forces and requested help from other countries, particularly Israel, for advice, training and facilities. He was also a just leader and introduced legislation giving the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) greater power to conduct arrests, search, call up witnesses, and investigate bank accounts and income-tax returns of suspected persons and their families. He is also fair to all races and religions because he stressed the importance of maintaining religious tolerance and racial harmony, and they were ready to use the law to counter any threat that might incite ethnic and religious violence. For example, Lee warned against "insensitive evangelisation", by which he referred to instances of Christian proselytising directed at Malays. In 1974 the government advised the Bible Society of Singapore to stop publishing religious materials in Malay.[12]

Under stressful situations such as the separation from Malaysia, he remained sane and rational, weighing all possible consequences before making any move on the political chessboard.
